The Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North West Province of South Africa. Geographically that means it is North West of Johannesburg and lies on the border with Botswana. It takes approximately 3,5 hours by road from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to the lodges on the eastern side of the reserve and another 40 – 60 minutes for the other lodges. Alternatively, you can fly to the lodges via light aircraft.

The vegetation is comprised of vast open plains of grasslands, woodlands, rocky outcrops and single mountains, making it unique and a very different experience to that of any other reserve.

It is the fifth larges of the reserves in South Africa and has, until recently, been pretty unknown by the international market. However that is all changing rapidly as the game life is growing fast and is home to the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo) as well as the endangered wild dogs which most other parks have few packs of.

Another unique selling point for the reserve is that it is malaria free which makes it perfect for everyone especially families and those not wanting to take medications.
