Do you know your cabernet from your merlot, chenin blanc from your chardonnay? Cape Town has so many fantastic wine farms to choose from we thought we’d put down a few of our favourite wine farms to help you choose!
Beau Constantia, Constantia Valley
The farm is located on the north-facing slope of Constantia Neck, an elevated position overlooking False Bay to the east, where vineyards are exposed to the cool ocean-chilled winds.
The tasting room offers magnificent views of False Bay as well as the valley below. Not only can you taste their wines but they offer a small but delicious menu of sushi to be enjoyed along with your wine.
Constantia Glen, Constantia Valley
A picturesque boutique wine farm located just below Beau Constantia.
They only offer 2 things on their menu; a cheese or a charcuterie platter and both are sublime! This is certainly a great spot to while away the afternoon. Bookings are essential during peak season.
Spice Route, Paarl
“The Spice Route experience is a completely unique concept for the wine and hospitality industry. A carefully curated selection of artisans showcase their produce and share their knowledge with both the public and each other. The collaborative environment allows for endless discoveries and a truly delectable journey.”
From wine tasting to chocolate tasting, craft beer to Grappa tasting, fine dining to a casual pizza under the trees, you will need to allocate at least 2 hours to this ‘destination’. It’s loved by locals & visitors alike so be sure to get there early to have plenty of time to experience all they have to offer.
By appointment only, Colmant is entirely dedicated to the bubbly-lover.
We first discovered this farm by accident; its located at the end of the main road of Franschhoek and from the road it doesn’t look like much. But once inside and the owner takes you on a tour of his cellar and you taste the fruits of the farm, you might just fall in love with their MCC as much as we did!
They don’t offer any food onsite but Franschhoek is filled with lovely places you can stop off for a bite afterwards.
Hidden Valley, Stellenbosch
Located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains the views across the surrounding vineyards is breathtaking.
They offer the best cheese platter that you can enjoy whilst either tasting their wines or just enjoying a bottle of your favourite! I suggest you get here early or book a table as it gets very busy with both locals & travellers and you don’t want to miss out on enjoying the view.
