Oceana Beach & Wildlife Reserve was the 6th stop on our Eastern Cape road trip; we stayed at a total of 9 different properties.

Initially we had only booked 2 nights at Oceana, however we decided to extend by 1 night so were fortunate enough to spend 3 very relaxing nights here.

Oceana Beach & Wildlife Reserve is located approximately 2 hours north of Port Elizabeth and only 1,5 hours south east of Kwandwe Private Game Reserve so it was the perfect stop for us. It’s close enough to Port Elizabeth that you could use this as a stay after a safari and before a departure flight.

Our suite was large and wonderfully positioned. We weren’t able to see anyone else and we had a beautiful view down to the beach as well as the waterhole just in front of the main lodge area. The reserve has 7km (4,3miles) of unspoilt, private beach that is wonderful for long walks and shell collecting. On our 2nd day we enjoyed a private beach lunch down on the Oceana deck. There are loungers so lie back, relax and read your book while you listen to the ocean sounds.

In regards to the game, they have rhino, giraffe and a wide variety of buck and antelope and because of the size of the reserve you generally are lucky enough to see them all. We loved that the drives depart later in the morning, i.e. around 9:30am which means you can have a lovely relaxing morning and not have to get up at the crack of dawn (which is a change from standard safari routine). They were also very willing to take Tristan out on a short drive to see the animals as well. The only negative about a later drive is that you’re out in the heat of the day, which, in summer, must be unbearable. However, there is usually a cool breeze from the ocean which helps.

All our food was delicious and the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for them, even having to deliver our 3 course dinner to our room in silence as Tristan was sleeping right next to our dining table!

I feel that this is a great property for a honeymoon couple looking for a 2 night stay after their safari before they fly home. Sitting on your private deck listening to the ocean is a great send off!
